Description

ARC U-Barrier features include up to four hours of fire integrity around the edge of the party wall and up to one hour of fire integrity between the spandrel panel and blockwork. When used in conjunction with the ARC U-Barrier vertically, an effective edge seal around the party wall cavity can be created. Additionally, a zero U-value can be achieved, minimising thermal bypass. ARC U-Barrier is also easy to install.

Where to use

ARC U-Barrier is compressed between the top of the spandrel panel and underside of the roof covering, creating a fire and thermal break: The ARC U-Barrier is specifically designed to be compressed between the top of a spandrel panel and the underside of the roof covering, serving as an effective fire and thermal break.

Fire Protection: The U-Barrier provides a crucial fire break at the junction between the spandrel panel and the roof covering. When compressed, it forms a tight seal that prevents the spread of fire and smoke between different areas of a building, particularly at this critical junction. This enhances the overall fire safety of the structure by containing potential fire hazards.

Thermal Insulation: In addition to its fire-resistant properties, the U-Barrier also acts as a thermal break. By sealing the gap between the spandrel panel and the roof, it prevents heat from escaping, reducing thermal bridging. This helps to maintain the building’s thermal envelope, improving energy efficiency and contributing to a more consistent indoor temperature.

Ease of Installation: The U-Barrier is designed for easy installation, as it can be simply compressed into place between the spandrel panel and roof covering. This ensures a secure fit that maintains both fire and thermal protection without requiring extensive modifications or additional components.

Regulatory Compliance: Using the U-Barrier helps ensure that the building meets regulatory requirements for both fire safety and thermal performance at this critical junction. It provides a straight forward solution for maintaining the integrity of the building’s envelope while also addressing safety concerns.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ARC U-Barrier?

The ARC U-Barrier is a fire-resistant cavity barrier designed to provide fire protection in the head of a wall or soffit detail. It is typically used in masonry and timber frame constructions to prevent the spread of fire and smoke through cavities.

What materials are used in the ARC U-Barrier?

The ARC U-Barrier is made from non-combustible mineral wool encased in a polythene sleeve. This combination offers excellent fire resistance while being easy to handle and install.

How is the ARC U-Barrier installed?

The ARC U-Barrier is installed at the head of a wall or within soffits to seal the cavity and prevent the spread of fire. It is typically friction-fitted into the cavity, ensuring a snug fit that blocks gaps and prevents fire or smoke from passing through.

What are the key benefits of using the ARC U-Barrier?

The ARC U-Barrier offers several key benefits, including effective fire protection by sealing cavities, enhanced building safety by maintaining compartmentation, easy installation, and compliance with building regulations for fire safety.
