• Does Kingspan insulation need a air gap? - Ventilated roofs require a 50 mm air gap above the insulation. Timber stop battens can be nailed into the side of the rafters to give the correct air gap when installing the insulation. The K5 insulated plasterboard should then be placed with the long edges running across the rafters.
• What thickness of Kingspan should I use? - The most commonly purchased thicknesses of K5 are 50mm and 100mm. These thicknesses provide good thermal performance while also being easy to install between standard studwork.
• Can you plaster over Kingspan? - Yes. You can add Kingspan K5 insulation to existing plastered walls and you can plaster over any boards - but you should fix them securely in place.
